Pei­pei Ping is Pro­fes­sor of Phy­sio­logy and Medi­cine at the Uni­ver­sity of Cali­for­nia at Los Ange­les (UCLA), School of Medi­cine. Born in Bei­jing, China, she gra­dua­ted from Zhe­jiang Uni­ver­sity in 1985 with dou­ble majors in Medi­cine and Bioen­gi­nee­ring. Dr. Ping recei­ved her gra­duate trai­ning in car­dio­vas­cu­lar phy­sio­logy and patho­logy under the men­torship of Dr. Paul C John­son at the Uni­ver­sity of Ari­zona. Her post­doc­to­ral trai­ning was with Dr. James Faber at the Uni­ver­sity of North Caro­lina (UNC) Cha­pel Hill, and later with Dr. Kirk Ham­mond in the Mole­cu­lar Car­dio­logy Trai­ning Pro­gram (Direc­ted by Dr. James Covell) at the Uni­ver­sity of Cali­for­nia at San Diego (UCSD). She was pro­mo­ted to Assis­tant Adjunct Pro­fes­sor at UCSD in 1995. Sub­se­quently, she was appoin­ted as Assis­tant Pro­fes­sor of Phy­sio­logy and Medi­cine at the Uni­ver­sity of Louis­vi­lle in 1996, and advan­ced to Asso­ciate Pro­fes­sor in 2000. In 2002, Dr. Ping was rec­rui­ted by UCLA School of Medi­cine as Pro­fes­sor of Phy­sio­logy and Medi­cine, and Direc­tor of the Pro­teo­mic Labo­ra­tory at the Car­dio­vas­cu­lar Research Laboratories.

Dr. Pei­pei Ping has ser­ved on the Edi­to­rial Boards of Ame­ri­can Jour­nal of Phy­sio­logy, Cir­cu­la­tion Research, Jour­nal of Mole­cu­lar and Cellu­lar Car­dio­logy, Cir­cu­la­tion, Pro­teo­mics, and Jour­nal of Pro­teome Research. She is Fellow of the Ame­ri­can Phy­sio­lo­gi­cal Society (APS), Car­dio­vas­cu­lar Sec­tion (2001-​​current), and Fellow of Ame­ri­can Heart Asso­cia­tion (FAHA) (1998-​​current). She has ser­ved on the APS Award Com­mit­tee; on the AHA Basic Science Coun­cil Pro­gram Com­mit­tee; She also ser­ves on the coun­cil of Inter­na­tio­nal Society of Heart Research (ISHR, 2006 – 2012); on the Envi­ron­men­tal Pro­tec­tive Agency (EPA) Board of Scien­ti­fic Review (20052007); and on the Sar­noff Car­dio­logy Scien­ti­fic Advi­sory Committee.

Dr. Pei­pei Ping has also a devo­ted ser­vice record at NIH; she ser­ved on the NIH CSR CVA study sec­tion, and on the study sec­tion of Myo­car­dial Ische­mia and Meta­bo­lism (MIM) as a mem­ber and Chair­per­son (20032006). In 2002, she was appoin­ted to the first NHLBI Director’s Cli­ni­cal Pro­teo­mic Wor­king Group; sub­se­quently, she ser­ved as the chair of the NHLBI eva­lua­tion com­mit­tee on Cli­ni­cal Pro­teo­mic Cen­ters (2005), and was ins­tru­men­tal in esta­blishing the NHLBI Cli­ni­cal Pro­teo­mic Cen­ters. She con­ti­nuous to play a lea­dership role in the Exter­nal Advi­sory Panel for these NHLBI Cli­ni­cal Pro­teo­mic Pro­grams (2004-​​current). She has recently been appoin­ted as Chair­per­son of NHLBI wor­king group on the role of mitochon­dria in car­dio­vas­cu­lar disea­ses (20072008).

Dr. Pei­pei Ping is acti­vely invol­ved with the Human Pro­teome Orga­ni­za­tion (HUPO). She was rec­rui­ted by Sam Hanash as one of the 17 foun­ding coun­cil mem­bers; she has ser­ved on the HUPO Coun­cil (2001-​​current) and Exe­cu­tive Com­mit­tee. She was elec­ted as Co-​​Leader of the Cell Model Pro­teome Ini­tia­tive (2002); as co chairs of the Car­dio­vas­cu­lar Pro­teo­mic Ini­tia­tive (20062007); as Chair of Edu­ca­tion Com­mit­tee (20032004) of HPPP; as an EC mem­ber of Human Plasma Pro­teome Ini­tia­tive (2002-​​current as Chair of HUPO Award Com­mit­tee (20032007); as Co-​​Chair of Scien­ti­fic Pro­gram Com­mit­tee (2004, 2006, 2009); and as Chair of HUPO Publi­ca­tions Com­mit­tee (20052008). She has suc­cess­fully led a com­mit­tee effort in esta­blishing offi­cial jour­nals for HUPO. Dr. Ping ser­ved as the Sec­re­tary Gene­ral of US-​​HUPO (20032005) under the Pre­si­dency of Cathe­rine Fen­se­lau; and is currently the Sec­re­tary Gene­ral of International-​​HUPO (20072008) under the Pre­si­dency of Rolf Apweiler.
