My main research interest is the pathophysiology of myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury and cardio protective strategies to ameliorate damage to the heart. To date I have especially investigated cardio protection through the application of volatile anesthetics and the underlying signaling pathways in this phenomenon. The goal of my research is to develop new therapeutic strategies of cardiac protection, especially in the perioperative setting.
